SILENCE NOT GOLDEN

Image
Sometimes, when one writes about the anomalies and failure of leadership in Nigeria, some of my Nigerian friends tell me we should stop talking about our problems and act like all is well with us, they want us to be silent in the face of this unimaginable and incomprehensible decay and decadence. I reflect on their words occasionally, but at the end of the day, i become more convinced that the solution to our problems as a Nation is not keeping quiet at a time when failure of leadership poses the greatest threat to our existence as a Nation. The present charade and absurdity in the country is the biggest threat to us as a Nation since the Civi war.  Yet, some of my friends want us to keep quite and act like all is well. They want us to keep quiet and share the type of blind optimism they share, they demand from us a kind of blind patriotism which gives a false belief that all is well. They want us to believe that bad leadership like we have today is not the primary reason fo...

My Fears: The Choice and Hope for a Better Nigeria

I am not afraid of the state Nigeria is today, i am more afraid of what will become of my beloved country tomorrow and in the future. We have already got used to the ugly realities of today, we have structurally and functionally re-adapted to living in a failed Nation, a term that already passed to the Nigeria of today. My biggest headache is the Nigeria of tomorrow, the Nigeria we will relinquish to our children and generations yet unborn. My hopes that better days are ahead of us continue to dwindled. My biggest concern is about we youths of today, we seem to be a more dangerous re-incarnates and breed of those who have brought woes and failures on our Nation. Our actions seems to be more terrible than those of the present and earlier leaders who are/were determined to sink our Nation... Ours is more deadly because we have brought a lot of intelligence, brilliance, sophistication and agility in defending and upholding absurdities and wrong societal and political values and ethics. ...

STILL ON THE GAZA CONFLICT

First and foremost, my prayers and sympathy go to the family of the people both young and old who had lost their lives so far in the latest rounds of hostilities in Gaza. I share in their pains and grieves, but again let's come to the reality, deaths like these had and will always be the reality of war. In a war situation, soldiers are always the currency, and humans an d property are the objects of trade subjected to (wilful) destruction. At best we can say, we are better-off without wars and conflicts of such magnitude, but is that absolute state of peace possible in the world? Conflicts and wars have been a part of the human history and it's been dated as far back as the early existence of man. This does not mean, we can not reduce such conflicts to the barest minimum. Hence, all hands must be on deck to ensure peace thrives in the world. I am not attempting to justify Israel's latest offensive and strikes on Gaza, but i must confess i am enormously appalled and disg...

RUSSIA AND THE NEW WORLD

I hope we are quickly coming to terms with the reality that the East-West ideological disparity will continue to grow rapidly, with greater and more precarious consequences to the World. The West handling of Russia with respect to the latter's role in Ukraine and the economic sanctions which the West continues to slam on Russia are now driving a new type of deviance from Russia and it's allies in the East, and at the end of this ideological conflict, i foresee the creation of two economic worlds, and a radically reduced inter-dependency between the West and the East and vice-versa.   A good behavioural characteristic of humans is, when we are exposed to some challenges, we innately tend to rise up to confront these challenges and proffer solutions to whatever effect they have on us. This perfectly defines Russia's response to the cold economic war it has been fighting with the West since the annexation of Crimea and further outbreak of violence in eastern Ukraine....

A SHORT ADVICE TO THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT ON THE FIGHT AGAINST BOKOHARAM... By Olarewaju Olaniyi Precious

While the Govt. is sustaining the Military Offensive against Boko Haram, i am urging them to work more on Intelligence gathering both locally and internationally. This is key to the success of the Military Operation in the war against terrorism in Nigeria. International collaboration will include: 1. Mapping of Boko-Haram Movement Patterns: So far, the Offensive of the Nigerian Military had been in some Forests and mapped areas in Northeast Nigeria which had been assumed to be the Operational base/Field of Boko Haram, i think the International Community can help also with the Satellite imaging of this zone, as such satellite images will provide more Information on the Operational Bases of Boko-Haram scattered around this Zone that also extends into some parts of Cameroon. This will give the Nigerian Military a greater precision and accuracy in the offensive against Boko Haram.  2. Sourcing more Information on the reported International sponsorship of Boko-Haram: It is no long...

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN STUDYING IN GERMANY? THEN, READ THIS

Majority of us do not actually know that studying in Germany is way lot easier than schooling in other foreign countries. I never knew of this untill one of my friends back then in my undergraduate days enlightened me on the very enticing incentives Germany offers International Students.    Before my friend hinted me of Germany, i had my energy fully focussed on studying M.Sc Animal Science in the University of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in Canada. But, when i heard of the prospects in Germany, it was not too difficult for me to drop the idea of going to Canada because the German history is something i had always loved long before now. I jumped at it because it will offer me an opportunity to learn more about the Germans. I must emphasis this before i continue, i am not a Travel Agent neither am i doing this for monetary gain, i only felt there is no need withholding very vital information which can positively turn around someone's life. Some people have all what it takes to purs...
